TINA VIENNA takes part

"ZERØ EMISSION CITIES - Dream or Goal?" Conference 2011

The second conference entitled "ZERØ EMISSION CITIES - Dream or Goal?" was held on 22 November 2011 at the Vienna City Hall. The topic of a future zero-emission city is currently not only mobilising experts, but is also attracting attention across all classes of the population, "as a smart city is only created with the help of smart citizens". This was also the conclusion of this year's well-attended conference, which featured prominent keynote speakers and discussion panels. The conference was hosted by the Trade Group of Engineering Offices of the Vienna Economic Chamber, with the support of TINA VIENNA.

For the second time after 2010, "ZERØ EMISSION CITIES - Dream or Goal?" was held on 22 November 2011 in the Festival Hall of the Vienna City Hall. The welcome remarks were delivered by Vienna's City Councillor for the Environment, Ulli Sima, and the President of the Vienna Economic Chamber, Brigitte Jank. The event was officially opened by Austria's Minister for the Environment, Niki Berlakovich, and the Chairman of the Trade Group of Engineering Offices, Roman Weigl. The full-day programme was moderated by ORF moderator Claudia Reiterer. The core of this year's event was based on nine keynotes from key experts from politics, business, science and research, which were intended to point out the way for a zero-emission future.

Keynote speakers included Heinz Stiastny, Managing Director of ÖBB Postbus GmbH, J. Robert Pfarrwaller, CEO of Philips Austria, and Arnulf Wolfram, the new head of the "Infrastructure & Cities in CEE" Department at Siemens. Thomas Madreiter, head of Vienna's Municipal Department 18 - Urban Development and Planning, presented the "smart city Wien" project, which is Vienna's stepping stone into the future of technology and climate protection in Europe. "All the ideas and projects that were presented by the attending experts are based on innovative spirit, efficiency, technical creativeness and expertise", stated "ZERØ EMISSION CITIES - Dream or Goal?" initiator Roman Weigl.

The highlights of the conference were two high-level discussion panels on the issues of "Energy visions for the future" and "Proper appraisal of future energy resources".

The dense and high-quality programme lasted until the early evening and was successfully concluded with an evening reception at the Vienna City Hall and one or two "energising drinks" at the Christmas Market in front of the City Hall.
