EMPIRIC project (Enhancing Multimodal Platforms, Inland waterways and Railways services Integration in Central Europe) has been developed to support the start up and improvement of new multimodal connections from/to North Adratic Ports with Central Europe hinterland. Along the PP23 corridor, the multimodal transport solutions are not able to satisfy the increasing demand of the last years, related with economic growth of the Central Europe Regions this situation creates negative impacts in terms of transport sustainability and environmental effects. For this reason, project partners started to work together in order to increase the awareness and attention of policy makers about the need to improve a more efficient multimodal framework for transport in the PP23 area.
EMPIRIC has been conceived as an initiative to:
- Integrate and capitalize results of previous international projects and local initiatives for the promotion of multimodal transport solutions;
- Increase interconnectivity of individual transport modes.
The EMPIRIC project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and implemented through the priority 2 of the Central Europe Programme „Improving accessibility to, and within, Central Europe“. The project was lead by the Port of Venice and ran from 2010 to 2014.
