The WORLDNET (European transport network model refinement regarding freight and intermodal transport to and from the rest of the world) project was submitted in March 2006 to the European Commission under the 6th Research Framework Programme of the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy and Transport in the area of "Scientific Support to Policies (SSP)" under the lead and project management of NEA Transport Research and Training. TINA Vienna was a project partner and was responsible for the "Communication Strategy" working package.
WORLDNET builded on the "TRANS-TOOLS" transport model which was designed for the EU 27 and will be used as a European forecasting tool in the future. This model is expanded and further developed with information about the EU's neighbouring countries and information on other countries or groups of countries from the rest of the world. The main objective of WORLDNET is the upgrading of the existing intermodal freight transport models.
